Having left his house in picturesque Goa in search of a music teacher at 14, began his tutelage under few of the most prominent exponents of Hindustani Classical music. Pandit Karekar’s exposure to different traditional styles of singing has helped him create and refine his style which many fans recognise instantly.

Excerpts from an interview:

Who has been your inspiration in ?
I have been staying in Mumbai for a long time. This place is full of music of different styles. I chose Natyasangeet which has a two tongued approach.

It is a form of classical music sung in a drama.

After having listened to stalwarts like Pandit Bhimsen Joshi and Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki amongst many others, I could not help but get inspired to learn more and more.

What is that inspired you the most in ‘Gunijaan’ Pandit C R Vyas?
I was under the guidance of Pandit Vyas for 18 years.
